Faro Itself
Faro is a city in the Algarve region of Portugal. Faro has been a popular holiday destination for many years, and is enjoyed by thousands of people from the UK every year. Although Faro has a reputation for being overcrowded and a little rowdy during the summer months, it is still an excellent place to visit. From this part of the Algarve, you can use Faro as a base to visit inland Portugal, and grab yourself a taster of real Portuguese life..
During the summer months, Faro heaves with sun worshippers, all of whom head for the Praia de Faro beach. This stretch of beach is several kilometres long, and should never get too overcrowded, even through the peak season.
The Cento Historica, or the Old City, is a well preserved section of town, just off the harbour. Here you can walk along cobblestone streets and marvel at the 18th Century architecture. Faro is also located next to the Ria Formosa Lagoon, a nature reserve which is over 170 square kilometres in area.
